Stimulation to Enhance Sleep

The Center for Sleep and Cognition (CfSC) at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) is seeking patients with a diagnosis of Schizophrenia and healthy control participants for a study exploring the ability of stimulation directed to the scalp during a nap to augment sleep. The study will take place at the BIDMC campus.

Participants will be asked to track their sleep for 1 week prior to participating in the study using an electronic, survey-based sleep log. They will then participate in 3 afternoon nap sessions (1 acclimation nap; 1 experimental nap with stimulation; 1 experimental nap without stimulation) in the CfSC (part of the Clinical Research Center) at BIDMC, with at least a 2 week break between the two experimental naps.  One nap will include light stimulation using transcranial electrical stimulation (tES). Participants will complete measures of cognitive and emotional processing before and after the naps as well.

To be eligible, subjects must be between the ages of 18 to 40 and must complete a screening session to determine eligibility. Again, we are seeking patients with a diagnosis of Schizophrenia and healthy control participants.
